And so the journey begins!

Hi and welcome to my new blog!

Allow me to introduce myself, I’m Tom Wilson.

I have recently started my decent into the SharePoint world and this blog is going to be my chronicles of the adventure.

I have completed training from ObjectSharp in Toronto. The intructor, Microsoft MVP Rob Windsor, was very well spoken. I found the course very informative if not a little daungting. SharePoint development is everything but beautiful. It’s a treacherous journey through the marshlands of middle earth. Things get messy, you’re constantly loosing your way and you feel likeĀ  you are walking through a swap of code. In the end I prevailed and am ready to take on the beast, but I now walk with a limp ;)

SharePoint Adventure begins

Adventure begins

My focus in the SharePoint machine at Non~Linear is front end and branding. I will be making the look, design and functionality more tailored to our clients needs. I’m on a quest to remove the “out of box” feeling from Microsoft’s monster. I’ll be looking at solutions in many forms to achieve my goals. Silverlight, Flex and Ajax Frameworks are all runner ups to possibilities of implementing my vision. I’m a strong advocate in web standards. If there is a right way of doing something, anything less is unacceptable in a production environment.

I’m sure by now you can tell I’m no writer. My path to my current place in this industry is anything but conventional. It’s been a wild ride and I truly believe my unique experiences will come into play everyday in trying to reach my goal.

So everybody, hold onto your hat, remember that above everything we are here to have fun and learn!

First off, congrats on completing your training from ObjectSharp!

Secondly, does this blog use WordPress?

Thirdly, I fully support your quest on removing the “out of box” feeling created by Microsoft. Integrating RIA technologies will definitely be a step in the right direction. Forget Liberals and Conservatives – this 08, my vote goes to Tom Wilson (you need a slogan).

    @ Jason

Yup! This bad boy is running on WordPress. Of course I made my own custom skin, but under the hood it’s pure PHP and MySQL! Irony at it’s best!

and I I thought I had slogan? At the top of this site, under title…

Tom, congratulations on this blog! How come I didn’t know about it??
Your post on Dreamweaver vs. Sharepoint was especially thorough and thoughtful.
I look forward to many more.
